We are living through unprecedented times, fighting an invisible killer that threatens our family and friends, our businesses, our investments, and, most recently, our freedom of movement.
However, is it true we have no control? Are we really powerless? Can we not provide some leadership? I strongly believe we can. In fact, I believe we have a vital role to play in improving the outcome of this pandemic, both individually and collectively.
Although not perfectly aligned, the core message of Government guidance around the world is remarkably consistent; wash your hands regularly for a minimum of 20 seconds, rigorously practice social distancing, and protect the elderly and vulnerable.
However with so many science based rules and constraints imposed, how can we show leadership?
Maybe you think these acts of leadership are trivial, but to the individuals who benefit from your kindness this really matters. If you play your role in enforcing social distancing, you will materially slow the spread of this virus. You will save lives.
There are other things you can do. It is so tough for families confined in houses and apartments when children are not at school and parents are trying to work effectively from home. As we all learn to adapt, it feels chaotic and unworkable. But it is also an opportunity to sit down as a family and identify your key priorities and worries. Then, together, build a plan to allow each family member to get to do their most important tasks and work out how you can help each other to be healthy and effective.
This period of enforced isolation is also an opportunity to reflect on other important issues. What has this pandemic taught you? For example:
My point here is to be positive. If you take action you can make the future better for the Covid-19 pandemic, and for so much more beyond. You are not powerless. You are a leader, you can make a difference by making your voice heard and taking action.
